The name jadeite is derived (via French: l'ejade and Latin: ilia) from the Spanish phrase "piedra de ijada" which means "stone of the side".
Jadeite and Nephrite Jade are totally different minerals. Classic jade, the jade that comes from China, is Nephrite, and Jadeite, the rarer type of Jade, comes from Burma. The most valuable type of jade is a type of jadeite known as Imperial Jade
The Chinese especially valued jadeite and have used it for multiple purposes. jadeite possesses health-strengthening abilities and can improve longevity. It can protect the wearer and absorb negative energy.
